What the GOAT score measures

Every career ends with a number. Here is where it comes from, why keepers are not punished, and why goals alone are not enough.

Il Nuovo Goat — football career simulator, GOAT 10 shirt

The GOAT score is the verdict that closes a career. It is not an average of your goals and not a raw trophy count: it is an index that tries to answer how great the career was as a whole. So it combines contributions from very different parts of your path.

What counts

On-pitch output
Appearances, minutes, goals, assists, clean sheets and average rating season after season. Volume matters, not only peaks: one extraordinary year does not offset ten years on the bench.
Team trophies
Leagues, domestic cups and continental competitions. Weight tracks your real contribution: a medal with few minutes is worth less than a title you carried.
Individual awards
Personal recognition counts a lot, because it depends on you more than on the squad around you.
National team
Call-ups, caps, goals and runs in international tournaments. A serious international career moves the score hard.
Peak OVR
The highest level you reached — how strong you became, regardless of how long you lasted.
Peak market value
What the market thought you were worth at your best: an external read of your weight in the game.
Longevity
How many seasons you played at a good level. It rewards who lasted, not who exploded and vanished.

Normalised by role

This is the biggest difference. The score is normalised by role family, so a keeper is not punished for not scoring and a striker is not rewarded for the team’s clean sheets. Each role is judged on what it is asked to do. A centre-back who won everything and lasted fifteen years can beat a hundred-goal striker with no silverware.

Why similar careers score differently

It happens often, and the answer is usually one of three. Trophy contribution: you won but barely played. Level: the same numbers in a third tier do not weigh like a top flight. Length: peaking at twenty-eight and stopping at thirty-one leaves longevity and volume on the table.

How to raise it

The two most underrated levers are minutes and patience. Starting for a mid-table side almost always scores more than being fourth striker at a giant, because it feeds output, trophy contribution and value together. And reaching retirement instead of quitting early lets longevity and career totals work for you.
